Hamstring Tendon Autograft for Chronic Patellar Tendon Rupture- A Series of Ten Cases

Patellar Tendon (PT) rupture is an uncommon injury of the knee extensors. Majority PT ruptures occur at insertion site, on inferior pole patella as avulsion injury, mostly in males <40 years age and involving sports persons or accidental cases. A case series 10 cases neglected were managed with primary repair along augmentation semitendinosus gracilis (Hamstring tendons) graft. Patient follow-up was done postoperatively 2nd week, 6th 3 months, 6 then yearly. brace given to patient immobilise for two weeks. Static quadriceps strengthening exercises started from postoperative day two. Assisted allowed after weeks postoperatively. Active initiated four Partial weight bearing full eight Postoperatively functional scoring using International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) Lysholm scores, simultaneously checking range motion, Insaal-Salvati ratio girth. Total 8 2 females present mean 43.9 ranging 38-53 years. The average period 25.5 months (range 12-39 months). Results excellent faster recovery regain their normal physically active life around reconstruction.
